During your rotary engine rebuild, if you are planning on running “oversized” 3mm apex seals, rotor modifications will be needed. This service ensures a proper fit for 3mm apex seals. Gone are the days of filing rotors and hoping you get it right. We accomplish our 3mm Apex Slot Service by cutting the rotors using Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) which provides the highest level of precision. Electrical Discharge Machining uses an electrode while submerged in water to create an electrical spark ranging from 8000-12000 degrees Celsius. The carefully controlled spark is so localized that is is able to remove material without even effecting heat treating below the surface. This extremely precise rotor modification all but guarantees a perfect seal fit. Additionally, please let us know which seals you plan to run before we do the modification.
During your rotary engine rebuild, Rotor Clearance Machining is one of our highly recommended rotor modifications if you plan on building a High RPM and/or High Boost engine.
Side Clearancing is the removal of material from the side of the rotors. Rotor Side Clearancing prevents rotor corner and side seals from sticking. Sticking seals can cause lose of compression if and when the rotors contacts the side plates at high RPMs.
Face Clearancing is the removal of material from the face of the rotors. Rotor Face Clearancing prevents the rotor contacting the housing at high RPM/boost. Since the eccentric shaft flexs more under high load, this clearancing buys you a very small margin of error, which translates into added protection.
All work is machined to identical tolerances rotor to rotor. It is also done with a step at the top of the rotor for more corner seal minimal clearance while permitting maximum side seal support through the center of the combustion chamber.
PLEASE NOTE: Turn around time for rotor modifications vary depending on work load. Additionally, timing just for inspection of parts may take up to two weeks. If you are working with a specific time frame, please Contact Us for more precise estimates.
